South & East Leeds Friends (S.E.L.F) is a social support service working with people aged 50+
in South and East of Leeds across all Leeds postcodes* who are experiencing low mood and high levels of social isolation.
*We broadened our service to include all Leeds postcodes due to increased need under the COVID-19 social distancing measures.
In line with social distancing guidelines, our service is currently offering:
- One-to-one telephone befriending with a like-minded volunteer
- Volunteer opportunities as a telephone befriender
Studies show 15% of older people in Leeds are socially isolated – this is around 37,000 people. The S.E.L.F Befriending service promotes better mental health by providing telephone befriending to reduce social isolation.
Befriending offers a time limited, supervised, one to one telephone relationship between a volunteer and befriendee.
Social Support – Suspended due to Covid-19
Social support offers a 3-month partnership in which the service user is accompanied and supported by a volunteer to attend local social groups and community activities.
Group Work – Suspended due to Covid-19
All service users are welcome to join us at our monthly social groups in South and East Leeds and at our monthly group activities.
