On July 10th, 2024, Anna from Ride or D.I Studios in Leeds embarked on a truly inspiring journey, cycling 482 miles across the UK with a 25kg trailer full of recording gear in tow. This epic journey wasn’t just a physical challenge, it was a mission with heart, creativity, and purpose.
As she pedalled through towns and countryside, Anna stopped along the way to meet local bands, record live sessions, and capture candid interviews. Her goal was to shine a light on the struggles grassroots musicians face, including lack of funding, resources and opportunities, and the toll these can take on mental health.

“It was by far one of the hardest things I’ve done,” said Reed. “The mental and physical barriers I had to push through were huge, but grassroots musicians are facing huge challenges themselves. The people I met along the way, including the bands, got me through it and much needed support from people is what will keep these scenes going too.”
Going the distance for mental health in Leeds and West Yorkshire
With every mile, Anna raised awareness and built connections, amplifying voices that often go unheard, and raised money for mental health back at home. Anna used this incredible journey as a chance to raise money for Leeds Mind, fundraising for mental health in Leeds and West Yorkshire communities. By the end of her ride, Anna had raised an incredible £1,080 for us, which will go towards funding the support we offer, including peer support, suicide bereavement services, and support for young people.
The Hidden Tracks
Anna captured her journey around Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England and has produced a short film of the trip. The film, named The Hidden Tracks, follows Anna’s tour, documenting the conversations with grassroots bands, their powerful performances filmed in amazing locations, and the ups and downs of a bike trip of such impressive scale.
Her story is a powerful reminder of how creativity and compassion can come together to make a difference. Whether you’re a music lover, a mental health advocate, or simply someone who enjoys watching people push themselves, Anna’s The Hidden Tracks is well worth the watch.
The film had its theatrical premiere on 23rd August and is now available to watch on YouTube.
