World Menopause Awareness Day 2025 is on Saturday 18th October. This year’s theme is Lifestyle Medicine¹, a reminder that managing perimenopause and menopause isn’t just about surviving hot flushes with a desk fan. It’s about understanding that this phase of life has both physical and mental health impacts, and that informed support and understanding are essential.
The facts about menopause
- 86% of working women say menopause symptoms negatively affect their work².
- 1 in 4 don’t know if their employer offers menopause support².
- 3.5 million UK women have considered quitting their jobs due to menopause³.
The impact of menopause on mental health
Those of us experiencing symptoms may joke about the “tropical moments” and the “brain fog,” but the reality is that 70% of women report anxiety, depression, and other psychological challenges during perimenopause and menopause⁴. It’s not just about hormones. It’s about identity, confidence, and feeling like you’re still ‘you’ at work and at home.
Why is it important?
With 4 million women aged 45–55 in the UK workforce², menopause isn’t a niche issue. Supporting people through this transition isn’t just kind, it’s also smart business. Retention, wellbeing, and productivity all improve when we start talking, listening and supporting this important transition.
